GURNEE, ILLINOIS – For the first time in history, Lake County government missed a bond payment in December 2019, costing taxpayers $800 in late payment fees, and jeopardizing the County’s AAA bond rating with Moody’s and S&P, according to the County’s Director of Finance, who discussed the matter in Thursday’s meeting of the County Board Finance Committee.
“A late bond payment is no small matter. This is a failure of leadership at the very top by County Board Chair Sandy Hart. There has been a complete lack of transparency in providing this information to the public. County Board Chair Sandy Hart should have immediately informed the public of the circumstances surrounding it as soon as she was made aware of it five weeks ago when meeting with Bond Counsel and staff. County residents deserve leadership and transparency. Rating agencies have communicated to the County that if it happens again, the consequences will be dire. Our County deserves better leadership, better guidance, better direction, and more transparency from our elected officials.”Lauren Fleming, Republican candidate for County Board (District 13)
Fleming is the Republican candidate for Lake County Board District 13, which includes parts of Gurnee, Lake Bluff, North Chicago, Waukegan and Wildwood. For more information, visit www.LaurenforLake.com.
